The Kupang City Government Has Recorded 19,615 In The Extreme Category, Need Additional Central Budget

KUPANG - The City Government (Pemkot) of Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara Province recorded 102,616 people or 19,615 families in the area fall into the category of extreme poverty so that it becomes the target of the poverty alleviation program in 2023.

"The government will continue to strive to accelerate the handling of poverty so that residents who fall into the category of extreme poverty can immediately get out of poverty," said Acting Mayor of Kupang George Melkianus Hadjoh as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 1.

George Melkianus Hadjoh said this was related to the efforts of the Kupang City government in overcoming the problem of poverty.

He said the number of poor people based on the target of accelerating the Elimination of Extreme Poverty (P3KE), namely Individuals, was recorded at 102,616 people or 19,615 families.

According to him, the poor in Kupang City who were intervened through the Family Hope Program (PKH) until 2022 reached 9,993 families.

According to George Melkianus Hadjoh, to help overcome extreme poverty experienced by the residents of Kupang City, it is necessary to increase the quota for recipients of social assistance.

"We hope that the central government can help in reducing extreme poverty in the form of increasing quota for social assistance recipients by 50.94 percent of the PKH data in Kupang City," he said.

According to him, the Kupang City Government also has a number of empowerment programs to help the poor so that the community's economy continues to grow.

He said empowerment activities were carried out, such as encouraging the formation of MSMEs in moving the economy of the community which was carried out independently.

According to him, the Kupang City Government through technical services also provides training to help improve work skills for residents in developing their businesses, so that the products produced by residents can be absorbed quickly in the market.

"The government also helps market the production of MSMEs so that they are known in the market more quickly," said Acting Mayor of Kupang George Melkianus Hadjoh.
