Dewi Coryati: The Role Of Women In The Peace Process Must Increase

JAKARTA - Member of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dewi Coryati, emphasized that the Indonesian parliament supports the participation and representation of women in conflict resolution and the peace process.

This is also what the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security (UNSCR 1325) hopes, which was adopted almost 23 years ago. "Ensuring and increasing the participation and representation of women is a prerequisite for world peace and stability," Dewi said in her intervention at the 10th Session of the PUIC Conference of Muslim Women Parliamentarians, PUIC General Assembly in Algiers, Algeria, Saturday, January 28.

This PAN Party politician said that there is a study that shows that with women's participation, it can increase the chances of a peace agreement last longer. At least in two years by 20 percent, and 35 percent last for 15 years.

"The DPR RI also welcomes cooperation and collaboration, shares information and exchanges ideas, as well as facilitating activities and/or programs with the Parliament of PUIC Members. Of course, these efforts are to strengthen and ensure that women can participate fully and have a substantive role in resolving conflicts and the peace process," he concluded.
