Enjoying PSI Gets A Special Wejangan From President Jokowi

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) advised cadres of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) to look for differentiations that distinguish them from other parties.

In his remarks at the peak of PSI's 8th Anniversary celebration, at the Djakarta Theater Ballroom, Tuesday, January 31, President Jokowi asked PSI to have differentiation when compared to other parties.

"Don't follow them. The issue is don't follow them. Don't be a 'follower', but it must be a trendsetter," Jokowi said as quoted by Antara.

The President said PSI must take advantage of the opportunities for young people who will vote in the 2024 General Election. Referring to data from the Ministry of Home Affairs, almost 60 percent of Indonesia's total population is 17-39 years old.

This means that the opportunity to take votes from young people is very large. Therefore, the President advised that the opportunity must be targeted by PSI.

"And the segment market is that big, that's what PSI really has to target and get. And in my opinion, it fits PSI very well," said the President again.

The President also gave a strategy to PSI General Chair Giring Ganesha to target young voters by raising the issues they like.

The Head of State also shared his experience when gaining the voice of young people during the Jakarta gubernatorial election with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) in 2012.

"At that time, I remember preparing with Pak Ahok that it was a plaid shirt. Nobody dared to make a trend like that. There was a risk. The risk could be lost if it was wrong, but it turned out to be welcomed by the community, especially the young people," said Jokowi.
