Member of Commission II of the DPR from the PDIP faction, Rifqinizami Karsayuda, rejected the proposal of the Chairman of the PKB, Muhaimin Iskandar alias Cak Imin regarding the abolition of the governor's position. According to Rifqi, governorship positions are still needed in the state administration system in Indonesia. "In my view, the governor's position is still needed," said Rifqi when contacted by VOI, Tuesday, January 31. Rifqi also revealed a number of reasons related to the need for governorship. First, the governor's existence is regulated in Article 18 of the 1945 Constitution. "One, in our constitution, Article 18 states that there are words that governors, mayors, are democratically elected," said Rifqi. Second, he continued, the governor is not only as a regional head who has autonomy at the provincial level. But also as a representative of the central government in the province. The legislator for the South Kalimantan electoral district emphasized that within the State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), the central government needs to have an extension to control the regions or governments under it. "It is important for the central government to have an extension in quotation marks to control the regions or government units under it," said Rifqi. Third, in the constitutional convention, the governor is a regional head who is directly elected by the people who have political authority to resolve various kinds of problems in his area. "Whether it's a problem that is regulated based on statutory provisions, as well as political and sociological problems. Previously, the Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar said his party was reviewing the elimination of regional head positions at the governor's level. Cak Imin explained that the elimination of the governor's position was because basically that function was too ineffective and accompanied by a large budget allocation. "The first stage was abolished because the governor's function was only to connect between the central and regional governments," he asserted.
