YOGYAKARTA recently went viral a video showing a junior high school student opening lanes for priority vehicles on traffic jams.

In a video circulating on social media, it can be seen that a student in a blue white uniform opened a lane for a fire engine (damkar) who was stuck in traffic jams in Empang Village, South Bogor District on Thursday, January 19, 2023 afternoon.

The heroic student who went viral was named Alfin Alfarizqi (14). He is a student of SMPN 7 Bogor City.

In front of the media crew, Alfin invited other drivers to give way to priority vehicles.

"If there are priority vehicles, please give me a ride. Maybe it won't take long, at least two seconds, or a minute or two minutes at the longest. I'm really afraid there are people who need help in a hurry," he said when met in Muara Kidul Village, Pasir Jaya, West Bogor, recently.

According to Law (UU) Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, there are seven priority vehicles that must be prioritized by road users.

The first vehicle that must take precedence is a fire engine that is carrying out its duties. Anyone is required to open lanes for firefighters on duty, including cars carried by the President and Vice President.

The second priority is given to ambulances carrying sick people. Vehicles that are allowed to precede the ambulance are only fire engines carrying out their duties.

Meanwhile, the convoy of leaders of state institutions is required to provide a way for ambulances carrying sick people.

The third priority is given to vehicles that provide assistance in traffic accidents.

The fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh priorities were given to vehicles led by state institutions, leadership vehicles and sing state officials as well as international institutions that were state guests, motorcades for corpse delivery, and certain convoys.

Order of Priority Vehicles on Mandatory Roads Priority

In Article 134 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, it is stated that the sequence of road users who get the main rights to take precedence is, among others:

If at the crossroads road users encounter some of the priority vehicles above, then they are required to prioritize priority vehicles according to the order mentioned above.

Road users must be able to understand these rules so that while on the road they can give priority to the seven types of vehicles.

For those who violate the above regulations, the authorities will impose a ticket. This provision is regulated in Article 287 paragraph 4 of Law Number 22 of 2009. The following reads:

"Everyone driving a Motor Vehicle on the road who violates the provisions regarding the use or main rights of Motor Vehicles that use warning tools with the sound and beams shall be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of 1 (one) month or a maximum fine of IDR 250,000.00 (two hundred and fifty thousand rupiah)," reads the article.
