Arrested By The KPK, Fugitive Izil Azhar Receives Gratification Of Up To IDR 32.4 Billions Related To Development Of Sabang Pier

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested the former Commander of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) Izil Azhar, who has been on the run since 2018. He is a suspect in alleged gratification related to the construction of Sabang Pier with former Aceh Governor Irwandi Yusuf. In Irwandi Yusuf's indictment, it was stated that Izil and Irwandi received gratuities from PT Nindya Sejati officials amounting to Rp32,454,500,000. Both received gratuities for five years from 2007 to 2012. In detail, in 2008 cash receipts were made 18 times with a value of Rp. 2.9 billion from Heru Sulaksono and Zainudin Hamid alias Let Bugeh. Then, Irwandi and Izil Azhar are also said to have received gratuities in the form of money in eight stages, which amounted to Rp6.9 billion in 2009. Just like the previous gifts, Heru Sulaksono and Zainuddin Hamid alias Let Bugeh took money from construction costs and operational projects for the construction of the Bongkar &rm Pier in the Sabang Aceh Free Trade Area and Port which was financed by the state budget. Next, Irwandi and Izil received Rp9.5 billion in cash which was in installments 31 times. Finally, both of them again received Rp13 billion related to the Sabang Pier construction project. As a result of his actions, Irwandi was then thrown into prison in 2018. He was sentenced to seven years and is currently conditionally free. Meanwhile, Izil was only arrested in Banda Aceh today, Tuesday, January 24. This arrest was made by a joint team of the KPK and the Aceh Police. "It's true, with the help of a team from the Aceh Police, the team managed to find the KPK DPO on behalf of Izil Azhar," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri to reporters, Tuesday, January 24. Ali said Izil would soon be brought to Jakarta. "For further processing," he said. After Izil was arrested, currently there are four fugitives who still have to be pursued. They include former 2019 legislative candidate Harun Masiku who bribed former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan.
