Riau Islands Coast Residents Are Advised To Be Alert To Extreme Weather! BPBD Remembers Rob's Flood Potential

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Riau Islands Province (Kepri) asked people living around the coast to always monitor weather developments during the extreme weather season.

"For residents around coastal areas, to always update the weather development from the BMKG, so that they can prepare themselves during tidal flooding," said Head of BPBD Riau Islands Muhammad Hasbi to Antara, Tuesday, January 24.

The appeal was conveyed regarding the prolonged rain that has hit almost all of the Riau Islands for the past two days.

He also reminded residents to always clean drainage channels near the beach, clean of garbage.

"We have also coordinated with the relevant agencies in the Regency or City regarding arrangements in the coastal area to anticipate tidal flooding," said Muhammad Hasbi.

Previously, dozens of houses in coastal areas, Karimun Regency were submerged in tidal flooding in the last two days.

The tidal flood was caused by rising sea levels above the shoreline in coastal areas which began to occur at around 09.00 WIB.

The phenomenon of tidal flooding disturbed residents' activities, a number of furniture and electronic equipment in residents' houses were also damaged because they were flooded.

Apart from Karimun Regency, a number of areas in the Bintan area have also been flooded due to rain over the past two days. The water level has even reached the knee level of an adult.
