JAKARTA - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero) or Pelindo 1 continues to optimize all business services in port management, one of which is operating liquid bulk terminals at ports, especially through its two large ports namely Belawan Port and Dumai Port.
SVP of Pelindo 1 Company Secretariat, M. Eriansyah, explained that liquid bulk terminal services are very prospective with the potential for commodity export of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) which continues to increase because CPO is one of the main contributors to national export performance.
"Throughout 2019, Belawan Port exported 3,273,978 tons of CPO and its derivatives, growing 12.60 percent compared to 2018 which amounted to 2,907,383 tons. The CPO commodity and its derivatives are exported to countries in South Asia such as Pakistan and India and some are exported to the Netherlands, "explained M. Eriansyah.
Currently, Pelindo 1 has an integrated pipeline facility at the pier that connects hundreds of CPO storage tanks in the Belawan Port area which are supported by 84 pipelines, six loading points, and equipped with 3 units of CPO tanks with a capacity of 3,000 Metric Tons each. (MT).
Belawan Port has a 3,436 meter long pier equipped with nine Mobile Cranes, four Diesel Forklifts, one Excavator, five Dump Trucks, four Grab Bucket Guven, and four Dry Bulk Hopper Guven.
The same is the case with Dumai Port, which is the largest export port for CPO commodities on the island of Sumatra. Dumai Port is able to export 4,751,701 tonnes of CPO and its derivatives during 2019 for export to India, China, Japan, and across Europe. This figure is up 5.77 percent compared to 2018 which amounted to 4,492,454 tons
Dumai Port is currently projected to be the largest CPO export port in Indonesia which has three piers, namely, Pier A, 348 meters long for general cargo and 20 meters for passenger ports, Pier B 800 meters for liquid bulk terminals, and Pier C along 500 meters for container and dry bulk.
Currently, facilities and equipment at Dumai Port include one Harbor Mobile Crane, three Mobile Cranes, one Reach Staker, three Forklifts, four Excavators, eight Wheel Loaders, 13 Dump Trucks, one Mini Dozer, nine Tugs, nine Guides. , and one Speed Boat.
"With the trend of increasing CPO export value every year, Pelindo 1 continues to improve its loading and unloading facilities for liquid bulk. Like at the Port of Dumai, we are upgrading the liquid bulk loading point (delivery) facility from previously only capable of pumping 200-300 tonnes per hour to 500 tonnes per hour, "he explained.
With the optimization of loading and unloading facilities for liquid bulk CPO and its derivatives, Pelindo 1 believes that CPO exports through the ports it manages will continue to increase and is supported by hinterlands and the CPO industry around Pelindo 1's operational areas.
"What's more, currently the government is aggressively developing infrastructure that can accelerate the distribution of goods and reduce logistics costs," said M. Eriansyah.
