Worse! The Death Rate Of COVID-19 In The Last Week Has Raised 20 Percent

Jakarta - Spokesperson for the Task Force for Handling COVID-19 Wiku Adisasmito said the development of death cases due to COVID-19 showed a worsening trend.

Based on the analysis of the COVID-19 Task Force data as of December 27, there was an increase in the number of deaths by 20 percent compared to the previous week.

The accumulated death of positive COVID-19 cases for one week last week was 1,040 cases. This week, the accumulated death toll for a week is 1,248.

"The increase in the mortality rate by 20 percent is very high and shows that the treatment for COVID-19 patients is not optimal," Wiku said in the Presidential Secretariat Youtube broadcast, Tuesday, December 29.

Wiku said the province with the highest increase in COVID-19 patient deaths was Central Java. The accumulation of death cases in Central Java last week was 207 cases and this week there were 374 deaths.

Second, East Java, with the accumulated death toll last week as many as 331 and this week as many as 373 deaths. Third, DI Yogyakarta, with the accumulated deaths of 22 last week and this week 45 deaths.

Fourth, West Java, with the accumulated deaths last week as many as 40 and this week as many as 62 deaths. Fifth, Banten, with the accumulated deaths last week as many as 6 and this week as many as 14 deaths.

"The death rate in Central Java increased by 167, East Java by 42, Special Region of Yogyakarta by 23, West Java by 22, and Banten by 8," said Wiku.

Wiku said, the high increase in mortality was due to delays in handling which resulted in casualties. Wiku asked the local government to improve the quality of care for COVID-19 patients.

"Immediately carry out a comprehensive evaluation of the handling of COVID-19 patients in health facilities so that they can achieve 100 percent recovery and no casualties. Remember, one life lost is very valuable," he explained.
