Toyota Invests IDR 28.3 Trillion, Develops Electric Cars In 2023

JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the Toyota Group is investing Rp28.3 trillion in the development of environmentally friendly electric vehicle products.

The Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang, said that he had held a number of meetings with the Japanese largest car manufacturer.

"Toyota has committed to me that they will start investing in the next three years up to Rp28 trillion," said Minister of Industry Agus in a virtual press conference at the End of Year and 2021 Industry Outlook, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, December 29.

From the results of the meeting, Minister of Industry Agus considered that the vehicle products produced by Toyota were very promising. He has also seen and heard various vehicle products offered by Toyota.

Toyota has also stated its commitment to develop and produce electric-based vehicles by 2023.

"They will build or develop hybrid, plug-in hybrid products, and they will also build one type of full electric vehicle in Indonesia which is planned to start production in 2023," he said.

Apart from Toyota, the Ministry of Industry noted that until the first semester of 2020, there is one or more two-wheeled battery-based electric motorized vehicle (KBLBB) company, namely the electric bus company MAB.

Then there are 15 electric motorcycle manufacturers operating with a production capacity of more than 897 thousand units / year, which absorb a workforce of around 1,500 people.

The new investment in the automotive sector that is currently underway is the construction of the Hyundai Motor Corporation factory, which is planned to invest IDR 21.8 trillion which is also targeted to produce Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) in 2023.
