Coordinating Minister Mahfud Asked PT GNI To Be More Open Regarding Manpower

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD appealed to PT Gunbutter Nickel Industri (GNI) to be more open about employment. "The government urges PT GNI to be more open, so that the government can have data, about all workers and implementing security in the company's environment that operates within the RI region," he said in an official statement in Jakarta, Antara, Monday, January 16 evening. This was conveyed by Mahfud regarding the clashes at the PT GNI smelter factory by North Morowali, Central Sulawesi on Saturday, January 14. He emphasized that the company must be more professional in ensuring conducive work so that there are no clashes between working groups. "The government regrets the incident," he said. He said the government hoped that all people would be calm and return to normal life as usual. "Because at this time, the situation in Morowali is conducive," he said. Mahfud emphasized that the security forces together with the regional government and PT GNI continue to seek the best possible solution for what has happened. After studying the background of the incident, the government emphasized that based on the constitution, every citizen has the right to get a decent job and fair treatment. Mahfud hopes that the company should respond to workers' demands wisely, on the contrary, workers must be able to express their aspirations and demand their rights proportionally in accordance with the laws and regulations.
