It's Been A Week, The Identity Of The Karam Ship In Garut Is Still Burning

Garut Resort Police said the condition of the ship that sank in the waters of Rancabuaya, Caringin District, Garut Regency, West Java since a week ago was still declared mysterious or without an identity.

"Yes, that's right (it's been a week), I have also reported both to the Chief of Police and to the Directorate of Polairud of the West Java Police," said Head of the Garut Water and Air Police Unit, AKP Anang Aceya, to Antara, Monday, January 16.

He said the ship, which is quite large with a length of approximately 25 meters, was stranded on Rancabuaya Beach, Caringin District, Garut since Monday, January 9, 2023.

The Garut Satpolyrud, he said, had checked the condition of the ship, and reported it to the Garut Police and the West Java Police to detect the mysterious ship.

Police efforts, he said, have appealed to all fishing communities, especially in the Garut area, but no one has yet acknowledged the ownership of the ship.

He also could not confirm that the ship was deliberately dumped or abandoned by its owner, because the results of the inspection had no sign in that direction.

"I can't guess yet. There is no sign whatsoever," he said.

He conveyed that the condition of the ship is still reversed and continues to be monitored by the police and other elements, including the community.

The shipwreck, based on reports from fishermen, was found in the waters of Cianjur Regency, then carried by waves into the Garut area and is currently still surviving in Rancabuaya.

The ship was declared mysterious because there were no signs of a ship's identity, as well as no crew members, including no one who felt the loss of the ship or family members.

The results of the inspection of the condition of the ship showed that it had been sinking for a long time because from inside the ship there were already many sea animals.

He said that the ship certainly did not belong to fishermen on the coast of Garut Regency, because so far no Garut fishermen have lost their boats.
