Jakarta Achieves Highest Human Development Index In Indonesia In 2020

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Province achieved the 2020 human development index (HDI), the highest in Indonesia with 80.77. The index achievement issued by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) received the predicate "very high".

The HDI achievements released by BPS are based on a number of indicators, namely life expectancy at birth, expected length of schooling, average length of schooling, and per capita income.

The HDI obtained by DKI is above the national average, amounting to 71.94. Meanwhile, the two provinces with the highest HDI were DI Yogyakarta with a figure of 79.97. Furthermore, East Kalimantan with a figure of 76.24, Riau Islands with a number of 75.59, and Bali with a number of 75.50.

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan appreciated his staff for their performance in efforts to improve people's welfare, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Anies, there are a number of efforts that have resulted in a high HDI figure for DKI.

"First, DKI will carry out spatial planning based on the surrounding environment, where all residents' needs must be met without having to travel long distances," Anies said in his statement, Monday, December 28.

Then DKI Pemprov prepares basic city resilient facilities and services. Then, improving digital infrastructure as the (backbone) of modern data-based governance.

"Next is the integration of population data to produce appropriate social interventions. As well as economic reforms by encouraging experience-based and value-added industries," said Anies.

On a separate occasion, the Secretary General (Secretary General) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Muhammad Hudori, appreciated the IPM achievement of DKI Jakarta, which was in the highest order.

Hudori said that there are three important factors determining the quality of life of the people in DKI Jakarta which are classified as good, thus contributing to the highest HDI figure in Indonesia.

"When talking about HDI, there are 3 things that must be considered for the quality of life of the people in DKI Jakarta, which are classified as very good, usually a long and healthy life, in terms of knowledge, and a decent standard of living," he said.

For information, HDI is an important indicator to measure success in efforts to build the quality of human life that determines the rank or level of development of an area. For Indonesia, the HDI is strategic data because apart from being a measure of government performance, the HDI is also used as one of the allocators for determining the general allocation funds (DAU).
