Kudus Surat Flood, BPBD Make Sure All Refugees Go Home

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has ensured that residents of Kudus Regency who were affected by the floods who fled at a number of points have returned to their respective homes. The floods that hit Kudus have receded.

"The last one came home, residents who took refuge at the Karangrowo Village Hall, Undaan District, Kudus, on Sunday (January 15) afternoon," said the Chief Executive of the Kudus BPBD Mundir in Kudus, Central Java (Central Java), Monday, January 16, as reported by Antara.

Meanwhile, there are 12 other refugee camps in total, he said, some have returned home on January 13-14, including refugees who occupied the Kudus DPRD building who returned home on Saturday, January 14 and who fled at the Jati Wetan Village Hall.

He noted that the peak of the evacuation reached 1,128 people on January 8, 2023, then gradually someone began to return home after learning that the flood in his house had begun to recede.

Meanwhile, the number of affected villages, he said, reached 31 villages spread across five sub-districts, namely Mejobo, Jati, Undaan, Kaliwungu, and Jekulo sub-districts.

"The majority of villages affected by the flood are currently receding. If there is still water for road access, but vehicles can pass," he said.

This, he said, could be seen on the road to Setrokalangan Village, which previously could not be passed by two-wheeled vehicles, now it is possible. Likewise, the road to Karangrowo Village can also be passed, although some points still have water.

If later there are villages that are again affected by flooding, the Kudus BPBD is ready to prepare refugee camps and general kitchens.

"Hopefully there won't be another flood. Flood inundation in Jati Wetan Village now no longer needs to be disposed of using a pump engine, because the exit can be opened to be thrown into the Wulan River," he said.

According to him, this cannot be separated from the smaller water discharge of the Wulan River, thus allowing it to reduce flooding by opening the floodgates to the Wulan River.
