Mahfud MD: The Deaths Of 6 FPI Soldiers Will Be Investigated, But The Government Will Not Form A TGPF

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD confirmed that the shooting incident of six soldiers of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) would be thoroughly investigated. But Mahfud emphasized that the government would not form a joint fact-finding team (TGPF).

"The deaths of the six laskar we will solve. If there is a human rights violation from the police, we will solve it. But the government will not form a TGPF about it, because of what? "Mahfud was quoted as saying on YouTube from the KAHMI Official Expert Council, Monday, December 28.

He said the government is currently giving room to the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) to carry out an investigation into the shooting case. In addition, the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) ensures that the government will not intervene in ongoing investigations.

"We will not influence, we will not intervene so that you remain independent and later the government will announce itself what your results (Komnas HAM) will be, we will follow up later," he said.

Mahfud also confirmed that the deaths of the six FPI troops would be handled as a separate case and would not close any other ongoing cases.

"For this reason, the deaths of these paramilitary troops will be handled separately as a separate case, not one case closing the other," he said.

It is known that Komnas HAM formed an investigation team after the incident of six FPI soldiers were shot dead by police at the Jakarta-Cikampek KM 50 Karawang toll road.

A team was formed to investigate the case. This is because the police and the FPI have different versions in their response to the case.

During the investigation of this case, Komnas HAM found several evidences. Such as seven projectiles, four casings, shattered glass, and CCTV footage on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.

Previously, the government's pressure to create a TGPF was conveyed by several parties, including Gerindra Party politician Fadli Zon.

"The president must form the TGPF and order the police questioning involved in the shooting in Karawang," said Fadli via his Twitter account @fadlizon, quoted on Thursday, December 10.

The member of the DPR RI said that the formation of the TGPF, whose members come from various elements such as the National Commission on Human Rights, human rights activists, representatives of ulama, academics, journalists, and other parties need to be done as a form of government response.

Because, if this is allowed to continue, it can escalate anger and make the public distrustful of legal justice. Because, in that incident, the police as law enforcement officers had killed six young people.
