Vice President Denying The Issue Of Istana Intervention Regarding Political Party Registration: Never Mix!

JAKARTA - Vice President Maruf Amin emphasized that there was no intervention from the Palace to election organizers regarding the process of registering political parties for prospective election participants.

"I think the President, Palace have answered, there is no (intervention). Only if something happens, the address is to the Palace, even though the Palace has never interfered, yes," said Maruf in Jakarta, Thursday, January 12.

He said President Joko Widodo had emphasized that there had never been an intervention by the Palace. All processes related to registering political parties are the authority of the KPU.

The Vice President emphasized that if there are allegations of fraud, then there is already an Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) as the institution authorized to handle it.

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko also said that there was no intervention from the Presidential Palace regarding the registration of political parties.

"There is no interest from the Palace," said Moeldoko.

Regarding the alleged election fraud involving the organizers, he said that it needed to be confirmed further.

Previously, representatives of the Civil Society Coalition at the Guard of the Hadar Nafis Gumay Clean Election, while attending a Public Hearing Meeting with Commission II of the DPR RI in Jakarta, Wednesday (11/1), revealed allegations of election fraud at the stage of verifying political parties for candidates participating in the 2024 General Election.

On that occasion, Hadar conveyed to Commission II of the DPR RI evidence of a conversation about the alleged fraud.
