Tourists Slave In Malioboro Jogja, Satpol PP Difficulty In Implementing Restrictions

YOGYAKARTA - The number of tourists who come to enjoy holidays in Malioboro, Yogyakarta has increased. As a result, restrictions on the number of visitors per zone in the main tourism area are difficult to apply.

“Yogyakarta is indeed open to tourists and they will definitely come to Malioboro. The number of tourists who come has increased so drastically that in the field it is quite difficult to apply the rules for limiting tourists per zone, ”said Satpol PP Yogyakarta Agus Winarto in Yogyakarta, quoted by Antara, Sunday, December 27.

According to him, the density of tourists in Malioboro did not only happen on Saturday, December 26 night. The density is expected to last until New Year's Eve and will gradually decrease until the end of the year holiday ends.

The Malioboro area is divided into five zones and according to the rules, the maximum number of visitors in one zone is 500 people at the same time. The maximum number of visitors is calculated through the application because visitors are asked to scan the QR Code at each “gate” zone.

Even though the officers in the field are overwhelmed, Agus ensures that the officers are not tired to always remind tourists to always obey health protocols.

"The appeal that we have is to ask tourists to wear masks properly. And we are working to ensure that tourists can adhere to the protocol of keeping distance even though it is quite difficult. If there is a crowd, we will unravel as much as possible, ”he said.

Crowds in the Malioboro area, continued Agus, usually occur from late afternoon to midnight because during the day many tourists still spend time visiting other tourist objects such as beach attractions.

Apart from enjoying the atmosphere of Malioboro, visitors also have a culinary tour in the area. “While waiting for food orders, they often forget to wear masks. Usually they chat and take off their masks. Yes, we remind you to wear masks properly, ”he said.

A number of supporting facilities for health protocols have been placed along the pedestrian of Jalan Malioboro, including a thermo scanner, hand washing area and prohibition on some seats.

Until now, Yogyakarta City Satpol PP has not carried out "sampling" of the rapid test antigen letters that tourists must bring from outside the region.

"If they are staying in Yogyakarta, they must have been asked to show the letter by the hotel or inn. And if you stay at your place, of course you have also been asked to show a letter or report to the local RT / RW, "he said.

During the year-end holidays, the implementation of the ban on motorized vehicles entering Malioboro Street at 18.00-21.00 WIB is temporarily lifted in the hope of reducing the potential crowds of tourists in the Malioboro pedestrian area. The lifting of the ban will be in effect until January 3, 2021.
