JAKARTA - The 7.5 magnitude earthquake that rocked Maluku was also felt to East Nusa Tenggara. There are even roads in a number of sub-districts in South Central Timor Regency (TTS) that were damaged and broken.

This condition paralyzed access to transportation to several local areas.

"The earthquake shock that occurred on Tuesday (10/1) in the morning is suspected to have contributed to faults in several roads in several locations in South Central Timor Regency," said Deputy Regent of South Central Timor (TTS) Jhonny Army Konay when contacted by ANTARA from Kupang, Tuesday, January 10.

Jhonny Army Konay said this was related to landslides on a number of broken roads allegedly due to 7.5 magnitude earthquake shocks with the epicenter in Maluku whose vibrations were also felt to the NTT region.

He said the earthquake vibrations were so strong that people in Timor Tengah Selatan Regency caused residents to flee their homes.

He said it was suspected that the earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 caused roads connecting Kie Village with Amanuban to be broken and landslides so that public transportation could not cross.

"We are on our way to the location to see firsthand the broken roads, including cleaning the avalanche material and repairing faults of damaged roads," he said.

He added that two teams were dispatched to locations that were damaged by the earthquake and heavy equipment to repair the damaged roads.

He said it was not yet known whether there was damage to residents' houses as a result of the earthquake shock that occurred on Tuesday morning.

"The BPBD team of South Central Timor Regency is still collecting data to areas that were reported to have been damaged when the earthquake occurred," he said.
