KENDARI - Police at the Konawe District Police, Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police, said that two Telkom project workers in the area died as a result of being electrocuted.

Pondidaha Police Chief, Konawe Police, Iptu Heru, said the incident occurred when the victims were installing Telkom cable poles for the Mataiwoi Village area, Amonggedo District, Konawe.

"There was a work accident during the installation of the Telkom cable which resulted in two workers dying on the spot", he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 9.

His party received information about the unfortunate incident from the village head of Mataiwoi Jecky at around 10.00 WITA.

The two victims were reportedly electrocuted along with three other people. However, three fellow victims only bounced off and are in good health.

The two victims died namely Sarifudin (16) and Ferdiansyah (17). Both are employees of PT Inanda, a partner company of PT Telkom.

The bodies of the two workers who died were evacuated to the Amonggedo Health Center for post-mortem accompanied by the victims' families and Pondidaha Police personnel.

"The victim's family then used the Amonggedo Health Center ambulance to take the victim to Ahuhu Village, which is PT Inanda's base camp, which is Telkom's partner, to be buried in the victim's village of origin", he said.

Telkom cable workers have been working since Sunday, January 8 by installing Telkom poles for the Mataiwoi Village area, Amonggedo District, and living in dormitories in Ahuhu and Lalopisi Villages, Meluhu District.

"And today it continues to install the pole again at 08.00 WITA. However, at around 10.00 WITA an accident occurred, five workers were electrocuted but two people died and three people were knocked over, their condition is safe", said Iptu Heru.
