YOGYAKARTA - The Al wayur Mosque in Gedebage, Bandung, West Java, is currently a hot topic of public discussion. The mosque, which stands on an area of 25.9 hectares, was inaugurated on Friday, December 30, 2022. There is a netizen who is concerned about the fact that the Alfernal Mosque was built using APBD funds.

The Al wayur Mosque was built for almost seven years, starting during the term of office of Governor Ahmad Heryawan in 2017. The mosque, known as the Gedebage Floating Mosque, was built on an artificial lake. The debate over the construction of the Alkovar Mosque using APBD funds also invited a response from Ridwan Kamil.

The debate started with an Instagram user with the @outstandjing account saying that the construction of a mosque using APBD funds is a problem. The account assesses that APBD funds obtained from regional taxes should be used to build other things, such as public transportation.

The Instagram account @outstandjing said the construction of a mosque was actually a noble act. However, the development carried out using the APBD is a problem because taxpayers have different backgrounds. He added that in Islam, funds can not be used to build mosques.

"Make the mosque a noble act, by being a charity for radius. But if (building) a mosque to use APBD funds? Payment of taxes (from) various groups. Akad and intention to pay taxes, not contract and waqf intentions. In Islam, funds can not be used for mosques! Look at 9:17-18 and 9:107-108," wrote the account @outstandjing.

West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil also responded to the netizen's post. The man who is familiarly called Kang Emil uploaded a screenshot containing the netizen's comments on the Instagram account @ridwankamil. In the upload, Kang Emil explained the use of APBD funds to build the Al

Ridwan Kamil said that the use of state funds, including the APBD, had gone through a mutual agreement. The policy has been discussed in deliberation with the people in the Musrenbang forum. He said all places of worship can be built using APBD funds.

"That's why, we choose democracy. Where people can entrust aspirations through the local government or a representative system, namely the DPR/D. Mosques, churches, temples can all be financed by the state as long as it is agreed by the executive and legislative branches," Ridwan Kamil wrote on his account.

Ridwan Kamil revealed that the construction of places of worship (mosques, churches, temples, and others) could be financed by the state as long as it was agreed by the executive and legislature. Kang Emil gave an example of the construction of the Istiqlal Mosque using APBN funds amounting to IDR 7 billion in 1961.

Ridwan Kamil also said that in areas where the majority of the population is Christian, the use of the APBD is allocated for the construction of churches. Meanwhile, in the Bali area, the APBD is used for the construction of the Pura worship area.

Al wayur Mosque has a capacity of up to 33,000 people if it is calculated with its yard area. The area of this mosque is 25,997 hectares.
