BNPB Calls House Assistance From The Government Will Fall If Victims Of The Cianjur Earthquake Receive Donation From NGO

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) asked earthquake victims of Cianjur not to receive housing restructuring assistance except for temporary housing (huntara).

Head of BNPB and Regent Suharyanto said that if earthquake survivors Cianjur received assistance for the construction of houses from various groups such as humanitarian organizations or organizations other than the government (NGO), then house assistance from the government would be killed.

"If there are volunteers or NGOs who help rebuild houses that are heavily damaged belonging to disaster victims, then the stimulant assistance for the construction of houses damaged by the disaster amounting to Rp. 60 million from the central government will be scorched," he said in Cianjur, West Java, Wednesday, January 4.

In this regard, Suharyanto will hold a meeting with the Cianjur Regency Government, volunteers and organizations other than the government or non-government organization (NGO) regarding the rules for providing and receiving assistance for earthquake survivors.

The meeting which will be held with local governments, volunteers and NGOs to share ideas so that the intention of helping does not harm earthquake survivors who receive it because they cannot get two assistances of the same nature of repairing houses or permanent housing.

Suharyanto explained that his party would direct assistance from various groups including volunteers and NGOs to shelters who would not abort assistance from the central government whose value was to be severely damaged by Rp. 60 million, moderately damaged by Rp. 35 million and lightly by Rp. 15 million.

"We ask residents who are victims of the Cianjur earthquake not to just accept assistance and pay attention to the applicable rules before receiving assistance, including buyers, not to have received assistance, they complain because the value is small," said Suharyanto.

Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman, asked earthquake victims to be patient while waiting for the turn to disburse aid funds to rebuild their homes from the government, because when receiving the same assistance from other parties, assistance from the government would be lost.

"For residents waiting for the turn of the liquid aid, they can build temporary housing from the government or volunteers and other parties, so that the assistance that will be given by the central government does not fall," he said.
