30 Inmates Escaped After The Attack: Mexico Send 200 Soldiers To The Border, Director Of Prison Fired

JAKARTA - Mexico's Ministry of Defense said it had flown 200 military personnel to its northern border town on Tuesday to fight organized crimes there, days after deadly prison riots and caused inmates to flee.

Authorities also fired the prison director, where at least 30 inmates escaped, they said Tuesday.

Separately, relatives of inmates lined up outside the prison on Tuesday, some asked to speak to authorities.

Maria Luisa Pena, the aunt of an inmate, told Reuters the authorities had not yet provided information about her nephew's situation.

"We are worried. We want to know what happened to our relatives, we want them to tell us something," he said as reported January 4.

"We are all human, aren't we? We all make mistakes. Now many of us want the opportunity to know what happened to our relatives," added the wife of an unnamed prisoner.
