Sweeping At Christmas And New Year In Banjarmasin Will Be Punished By The Police

BANJARMASIN - Banjarmasin Police Chief Kombes Rachmat Hendrawan emphasized that he would take firm action against sweeping actions at Christmas and New Year.

"There is no reason whatsoever to carry out sweeping during the Christmas and New Year implementation. If it is still done, don't blame the officers for being firm," said Rachmat as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 23.

The community is expected to work together to keep Banjarmasin safe, comfortable, healthy and conducive. He appealed, if the public finds or sees a crowd or convoy by a group with specific aims and objectives, immediately contact the police.

"I was not playing games, disturbing Kamtibmas during the Nataru (Christmas and New Year) implementation we acted firmly and immediately secured," he said.

The police will take firm action against any mass organizations or groups that interfere with Nataru's operations, this is in accordance with instructions from the leadership.

"The police and joint officers will guarantee that there will be no disturbances at Christmas and New Year," he continued.

Kombes Rachmat reminded the existence of law enforcement against all forms of criminal acts that interfere with the implementation of Christmas and New Year in accordance with applicable legal provisions, for the sake of implementing conducive social security.

"We have mapped a number of potential vulnerabilities during Christmas and New Year, including the threat of terrorism, radicalism and thuggery, then traffic jams, and other disturbances to security and public order," he continued.

People are also advised to stay at home and not come out to celebrate the new year because COVID-19 is still there and anyone can be infected by the deadly virus.

"I invite all people to support the government's efforts to break the chain of spreading COVID-19 by implementing health protocols such as not leaving the house, wearing masks, washing hands with soap and maintaining distance and avoiding crowds," he said.
