JAKARTA - The former chairman of the United Development Party (PPP), Muhammad Romahurmuziy or Romy, has returned to politics ahead of the 2024 Simultaneous Election. The former convict of corruption in the case of buying and selling positions was even immediately appointed as Chairman of the Party Advisory Council (MPP) after rejoining the Kaaba party.

PPP revealed the reason for Romy's appointment as a high-ranking political party even though he was a former prisoner of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The chairman of the PPP DPP, Achmad Baidowi (Awiek), explained that Romy still has political rights and has been declared free from the KPK detention center since 3 years ago.

"Based on the cassation decision, he was only sentenced to one year. Second, no court decision revoked his political rights. So, it's okay for him to return to politics," said Awiek, Monday, January 2. This member of the DPR from East Java said that nothing prevented Romy from returning to the political stage because the demand for punishment for the corruption case that surrounded him was still under five years old.

"The sentence is under five years, which is only four years. And based on the Constitutional Court's decision, under the five years it is permissible to nominate as a candidate for a member of the DPR, let alone become a party administrator, it is very permissible," said Awiek.

Therefore, Awiek added, PPP is considering Romy's return because it is still believed to have the capacity to raise the party.

"Of course it has been considered, and Mas Romy in the eyes of PPP friends still has the ability to raise the party," he said. "As for others, of course that is the authority of the revitalization team to include his name as Chairman of the Advisory Council," continued Awiek.

It is known that Romy's return to PPP was revealed through his upload on the Instagram account @romahurmuziy, regarding decision letter number 0782/SK/DPP/P/XIII/2022 regarding changes to the personal composition of the PPP DPP considerations. The letter was signed by Acting Chairman Muhammad Mardiono and Secretary General Arwani Thomafi on December 27, 2022.

"I accept this proposal with bismillah, there is nothing but hoping for blessings, so that this clerical heritage can return to life. I accept this mandate in line, because in every position it lurks slander, filtered the words of la haula wa laa quwwata illa billah," Romy wrote as seen on his Instagram account, Sunday, January 1.

In the letter, Romy was accompanied by five Deputy Chairmen of the PPP DPP Advisory Council. Namely, Wardatul Asriyah, Numan Abdul Halim, Anang Iskandar, Syarif Hardler, and Witjaksono. Then, Anas Thahir became secretary, Hizbiyah Rohim and Irene Rusli Halil served as deputy secretary.
