JAKARTA - The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has arrested a Ukrainian intelligence agent in the Kherson Region for sending Russian troop data for artillery strikes, the FSB press office reported on Thursday.

"A Ukrainian intelligence service agency has been arrested in the Kherson Region for gathering information about the Russian Armed Forces," the press office said in a statement, quoted from TASS December 30.

"He was assigned to collect and forward information on the location, numerical forces of the Russian Armed Forces unit, their movement routes, the types of equipment and weapons used in special military operations with links to maps of the terrain and geographic coordinates," the statement said.

The spy further explained that the information conveyed to a Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) officer via WhatsApp messages for the Kyiv military, in order to calibrate artillery, rocket and bomb attacks on the position of Russian troops, the FSB said.

He added that the FSB branches in the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol have opened criminal cases against 54-year-old Ukrainian nationals under article 276 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Spionase'). The suspect has been detained, the press office said.
