Bengkulu Potentially There Is Extreme Weather, Governor Asks To Avoid Celebrating In The New Year

JAKARTA - Bengkulu Governor Rohidin Mersyah appealed to the public to reduce outdoor activities when welcoming or celebrating the New Year 2023. The appeal was given because the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had predicted extreme weather during the new year. "It has been conveyed by the BMKG regarding extreme weather and the possibility of a disaster. I think it is better for us to be careful, vigilant and if it is not important there is no need to hold activities that can cause problems," said Rohidin in Bengkulu City, Thursday, December 29, quoted from Antara. He also invited the public to reduce and avoid unnecessary celebrations or not need to be done ahead of the New Year 2023. However, the public must remain enthusiastic in welcoming the new year 2023 accompanied by self-evaluation to be even better than before.

According to Rohidin, the Bengkulu Provincial Government will not carry out any activities on New Year's Eve, but it will carry out monitoring at a number of tourist attractions and posts that are potentially crowded by the public. Previously, BMKG Bengkulu predicted bad weather to occur in a number of Bengkulu areas, especially coastal areas, namely high waves to reach three meters accompanied by strong winds with speeds of up to 30 kilometers per hour. The extreme weather occurred due to weather disturbances in Australian waters which caused strong winds in Indonesian waters, especially on the island of Sumatra.

In addition to high waves and strong winds, heavy rains also have the potential to occur in a number of Bengkulu areas. Therefore, people who are on the coast are asked to be aware of bad weather, including traditional fishermen when going to sea.
