JAKARTA - Russian President Vladimir Putin has no plans to wish his US partner a Happy New Year, according to a Kremlin spokesman on Monday.

That's due to the current state of relations between Washington and Moscow, as an inappropriate time to congratulate, according to Dmitry Peskov.

"Not now. Now we are so unfriendly that maybe there is no time to congratulate you," Peskov told reporters, launching TASS December 26.

The Kremlin spokesman did not answer a question of clarification on whether the Russian leader would congratulate the unfriendly leaders of other countries.

"I can't say that for sure," he continued.

Peskov clarified that the Kremlin press service, as usual, would prepare a list of people Putin would congratulate.

President Biden and Putin's relations come as Russia's invasion of Ukraine has entered its 10th month, after last year the two leaders met in Geneva, Switzerland.

Most recently, US President Joe Biden said he had no plans to contact Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future.

However, President Biden is ready to speak with President Putin, if he shows interest in ending the war in Ukraine and only in consultation with NATO allies (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).

"I have no immediate plans to contact President Putin," President Biden told a White House press conference after talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.

"I am ready to speak with President Putin, if there is any interest in him deciding to find a way to end the war. He hasn't done it yet," President Biden continued.

In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to negotiations about Ukraine, but the West must accept Moscow's demands, the Kremlin said.

"The president of the Russian Federation has always been, moderate and remains open to negotiations to ensure our interests," Peskov said.

He said the United States' refusal to recognize Russia's "new territory" was blocking the search for potential compromise.

"This significantly complicates the search for a common foundation for discussion," Peskov said.

President Biden has not spoken directly to President Putin since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. In March, President Biden called President Putin a "roach" who could "not remain in power".
