JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo explained the slow progress of the development of the Manggarai Station in Jakarta. Starting in 2016, now the revitalization of Manggarai Station has only been completed in the first phase.

Jokowi admitted that the government could not quickly complete the Manggarai Station development project because this station was still operating every day.

"Indeed, the construction of the Manggarai station cannot be fast because the station is still operational, if it is turned off (operationally), the construction can be faster," said Jokowi at Manggarai Station, Monday, December 26.

Jokowi said that the construction construction work for Manggarai Station was only carried out four hours per day, and was carried out only at night.

"That's a development problem at Manggarai Station," said Jokowi.

Jokowi also targets the construction of the Manggarai Station phase 2 to be completed by 2025. When all the work has been completed, Jokowi ensures that the integration and mobility process of the community at Manggarai Station will be more efficient.

"With everything being integrated, we hope that speed, headway, and community mobility can be safer," said Jokowi.

Today, Jokowi inaugurated the revitalization of Manggarai Station phase 1 with an additional 7 lines to become 14 train lines, which will have an impact on increasing train travel frequency.

"Since 2016 we have developed Manggarai Station as one of the central stations in Jakarta, including being part of the Manggarai-Cikarang double track project with an increase in the number of routes from the original seven lanes to 14 lanes," said Jokowi.

President Jokowi explained that Manggarai Station is one of the busiest train traffic stations in Indonesia. The station serves the KRL Commuter Line stop to Jakarta City, Tanah Abang, and Bekasi, with very heavy traffic and passengers.

According to him, the development of stations with increasing rail lines is very important to increase the frequency and headway of train travel, increase public accessibility and mobility from Jakarta to other buffer cities and vice versa.

In addition, the revitalization of Manggarai Station also makes it easier for people to go to Soekarno-Hatta Airport via airport trains, as well as facilitating the use of public transportation because it is integrated with TransJakarta, online motorcycle taxis, bajaj, and other public transportation.
