JAKARTA - Punagaya, December 24, 2022 - Two waste banks assisted by PT PLN (Persero) the Punagaya Generation Implementation Unit (UPK) managed to supply 15 tons of coal replacement fuel or co-firing for Steam Power Plants (PLTU). Using gubernatorial waste, this replacement fuel quantity is obtained every 3 (three) months of the harvest period.

Both are the waste bank of Sabrina and Bori Matangkasa from the PLN Environmental Social Responsibility Program (TJSL), both of which have succeeded in supplying corncob waste as a mixture of co-firing fuel for PLTU Punagaya with a mixed ratio of 1:99 since August 2022.

Galesong Village Head, H. Amir Guliling, explained that Takalar and Jeneponto regencies are one of the corn barns in South Sulawesi province. However, so far corncobs only end up in the trash.

Thus, this collaboration with PLN will provide additional sources of income while reducing waste.

"We certainly welcome the enthusiasm for cooperation in the use of corncobs through this waste bank. The collaboration initiated by PLN has proven to be able to provide economic benefits for local residents, especially the processing of domestic waste into economical-valued materials," he said.

General Manager of PLN's Generation Main Unit & Distribution of Sulawesi Jarot Setyawan said the collaboration between PLN and the community around PLTU Punagaya was a symbiotic mutualism that benefits both parties. Because, now corncobs that used to be waste are of economic value.

"We run a supply chain scheme that is mutually beneficial for local residents. Starting from providing corn seedlings for energy field programs, which then corncob waste will be collected to the garbage bank with motorcycle carts assisted by TJSL PLN, and finally retailed and sent to PLTU Punagaya," said Jarot.

He added that currently the ability to supply corncobs from the waste bank is 15 tons per three months of harvest period. PLN will continue to expand its cooperation scheme for waste banks and Energy Fields around PLTU Punagaya so that it can create a populist electricity ecosystem and is expected to be able to meet the supply of corncobs of 25 tons per day.

"In 2023, we will expand this waste bank cooperation scheme. The target is that there will be an additional 10-15 waste banks that are directly integrated with the waste mall application. This program aims to reduce dependence on one supplier and provide corncob sources from other suppliers at competitive prices," he said.

This effort continues to be made by the company in order to implement Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) in each line of business processes.
