JAKARTA - The Legal Aid Institute of the Indonesian Women's Association for South Sulawesi Justice (LLBH Apik Sulsel) reported that the number of cases of violence against women and children throughout 2022 was handled by 54 cases or decreased compared to last year which reached more than 100 cases.

"The complaint against cases experienced by women and children who entered LBH APIK Makassar in 2022 reached 54 cases. Of these, the dominant cases handled by LBH Apik Makassar are cases of divorce submission," said LBH Apik Makassar Program Manager Ema Rahmayanti Hatta, quoting Antara, Saturday.

He said, for the details of the case, there were 21 cases of divorce, 8 cases of domestic violence (KDRT), 14 cases of sexual violence, children dealing with 3 cases of law, and 7 cases of violence experienced by women outside the household.

According to him, compared to 2021, the complaints received by LBH Apik Makassar experienced a decline, last year LBH Apik received more than 100 complaints.

Ema believes that there are complaints about the case, because the work of advocacy has begun to be accepted consciously by the community, as well as collaboration between the government and NGOs.

However, Ema hopes that women who experience cases of domestic violence or sexual violence to dare to report the case to legal aid agencies, will not be silenced as if they were going to legalize the violence experienced.

The same thing was stated by a observer of the problem of women and children, Dr. Hadawiah Hatita who is also the Executive Director of LaPISMedik Makassar.

He said that the emergence of various cases of violence against women and children was one of them triggered by disharmony communication, which triggered the misunderstanding between the two parties.

In this regard, to anticipate cases of violence against women and children, it is necessary to build relationships with harmonious communication, so as to eliminate misunderstandings with each other.
