CIANJUR - Cianjur Police, West Java, formed a special team to hunt down crowds to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The police will take firm action against violators of health protocols, including crowds.

Cianjur Police Chief, AKBP Mochamad Rifai, said that his party did not only disperse the crowd ahead of the long Christmas and New Year holidays. However, residents and community centers who do not apply health protocols will be subject to strict sanctions if they do not.

"We have formed a special team for crowd hunters or COVID-19 hunters as an effort to raise awareness of citizens in implementing strict health protocols, especially when doing activities outside the home, from dissolution or strict sanctions for those who are stubborn," he said as quoted by Antara, Saturday, December 19.

Approaching the long holidays of Christmas and New Year, the police will not give permission to the crowds for anyone, especially to hold events that can invite crowds of residents. Crowds are at high risk of contracting COVID-19.

"There is no permit for the crowds before or during the long Christmas and New Year holidays, with the hope of reducing the spread of dangerous viruses. Those who violate will be disbanded or subject to strict sanctions for those who are stubborn," said Rifai.

Meanwhile, Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman appealed to residents not to create events that could invite large crowds ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays because of the high risk of COVID-19 transmission, which has occurred sporadically in the last one month.

"We urge that there are no crowds during the long Christmas and New Year holidays. The Cianjur Regency Government will not give permission and coordinate with the police to hold mask raids and awareness to implement health protocols. Dismissal sanctions until firm action will be implemented," said Herman.
