Immigration Asks UNHCR To Take Responsibility For The Escape Of 33 Rohingya Immigrants From Lhokseumawe

ACEH - The Class II Immigration Office of TPI Lhokseumawe, Aceh asked the UN agency for evacuation or the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) not to underestimate and be responsible for the escape of dozens of Rohingya immigrants from temporary shelters. "UNHCR is the most responsible regarding foreign refugees. So don't take it lightly regarding the escape of 33 Rohingya immigrants from the temporary evacuation site in the former building of the Lhokseumawe Immigration Office," said Head of the Immigration Information Technology Section Izhar Rizky in Lhokseumawe, Antara, Friday, December 16. In terms of Rohingya immigrants, said Izhar Rizky, Lhokseumawe Immigration only serves as administrative supervision and provides temporary shelter locations according to a letter from the Director General of Immigration of the Republic of Indonesia. The maximum period of the shelter is three months. "Lhokseumawe Immigration has coordinated with UNHCR to ask the agency to improve its security system by making fences so that Rohingya refugees do not escape, but so far it has not been followed up," he said. Izhar Rizky said the Lhokseumawe Immigration Office could not interfere in the security affairs of Rohingya immigrants because this was UNHCR's authority. However, his party hopes that the case of the escape of the boat man from the shelter location will not be repeated. "From now on UNHCR must find a proper and appropriate location for these immigrants. Do not let the predetermined deadline be determined, the refugees have not yet found a proper place, until the case of the escape of Rohingya refugees has occurred again," he said. Moreover, said Izhar Rizky, local residents have started to reject Rohingya residents who were accommodated in the former building of the Lhokseumawe Immigration Office. "Do not let conditions like this cause unrest and polemics in the community. So. UNHCR must be responsible for this," said Izhar Rizky.
