JAKARTA - Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) 7/2017 concerning Elections that have not been sent by the government to the DPR should not be a 'defend' for the General Election Commission (KPU) in carrying out the stages of the 2024 Simultaneous Elections. Member of Commission II of the DPR from the PAN faction Guspardi Gaus asked the government to immediately send an Election Perppu to the DPR to immediately take approval. This is because the KPU will announce political parties (particles) participating in the election. In addition, the DPR will also soon enter the recess period. "Of course we hope that the government will immediately send a Perppu that has been prepared, because the stages have already started, we also want this process. Do not let the Perppu issue become a constraint for the KPU in carrying out the stages of the election," said Guspardi to VOI, Monday, December 12. The West Sumatra electoral district PAN legislator admitted that until now he has not received valid information regarding the existence of the Perppu. Reportedly, the Election Perppu has been at President Joko Widodo's desk to be signed, to be then sent to the DPR. "The Perppu is on the government side, sent to the DPR. The leadership will submit it to Bamus to be submitted to Commission II's task field. (But) until now, there is no accurate information on to which extent and where the Perppu will be submitted by the DPR," said Guspardi.

Guspardi explained, before the Election Perppu agreed, Commission II of the DPR together with the government and election organizers had conducted a consignment to give perfection to the Perppu itself. The Election Perppu, necessary because there is a new electoral district in the Papua DOB, as well as the DPD-DPD. "Because it needs revision of the law, but if the revision is troublesome, the mechanism is long, it is agreed by the Perppu," he explained.

For this reason, once again he reminded the government to immediately send an Election Perppu because of its interest in adding new electoral districts (dapil). Not for other discourses such as postponing elections or extending the term of office of the president, and so on. "We hope that the government will immediately hand it over to the DPR so that we can learn whether to accept or reject," said Guspardi. "There should be no all kinds of discourse.
