Bamsoet's Clarification About The 2024 Election Recount: Don't Ask To Postponed, Just Invite Your MIND

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo clarified his statement regarding the 2024 Simultaneous Elections needs to be reconsidered.

Previously, the senior Golkar politician assessed that the momentum of the democratic party in 2024 was deemed inappropriate because Indonesia was still in a recovery situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bambang Soesatyo alias Bamsoet emphasized that he had never issued a sentence of postponement of the 2024 General Election.

"Who asked for the election to be postponed? I just asked to think. Can't you think?" said Bamsoet to reporters, Saturday, December 10.

The former chairman of the DPRalibi, himself only opened a discourse. However, said Bamsoet, it does not mean that he disrupts the clearly regulated agenda in the Election constitution which will be held in 2024.

Moreover, he said, the election stages were already underway.

"The constitution has clearly regulated that elections are held every five years, unless there is something extraordinary as regulated in the constitution and the law," said Bamsoet.

It is known, various parties, especially from political parties, criticized Bamsoet's statement. Bamsoet was considered not wise as chairman of the MPR by pushing for postponement of elections. He was also advised to end unproductive discourses. Previously, MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) asked that the simultaneous elections in 2024 should be taken into account. Because according to him, the momentum of the 2024 democratic party is not appropriate because the government is making a recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the Jokowi-Ma'ruf government has proven to be able to handle and respond quickly in the face of various challenges. In addition, said Bamsoet, in dealing with natural disasters that have recently hit Indonesia. It must be calculated properly whether the momentum is right in our era is trying to recover together against this situation and anticipate, adaptation and global threats such as the economy, natural disasters and so on," Bamsoet said at the release event of Poltracking's survey results, Thursday, December 8.

In addition, the senior Golkar politician assessed that Jokowi also successfully faced COVID-19 and was well-recognized by the world. "The G20 is implemented well, various economic policies and other policies are also good, so we are still able to survive the 5 percent economic growth," said Bamsoet.
