Cassava Chips Products From Indonesian SMEs Penetrate The US Market

JAKARTA - Cassava chips produced by Indonesian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have successfully penetrated the United States (US) market. The first export of cassava chips from the company was carried out on Wednesday, January 28, with a total of 320 cartons or US $ 5,200.

The success of UKM, PT Paretu Estu Guna, is because it routinely participates in the export assistance program (Export Coaching Program) of the Indonesian Export Coaching and Training Center (PPEI) of the Directorate General of National Export Development (PEN) Ministry of Trade in 2018.

PT Paretu Estu Guna is an SME company in Bojonegoro, East Java which is engaged in cassava chip snack food under the "Matoh" brand. The company, which was founded in 2015, is now increasingly famous and has gone global to several countries, such as China and Kuwait.

"The success in penetrating the international market was achieved by the effort, hard work, and commitment of business actors in participating in the export assistance program," said Director General of PEN, Dody Edward, in a statement received by VOI, Friday, January 31.

The export assistance program is a one-year activity to foster SMEs. This activity is specifically for the PPEI Balai Besar training alumni and has been running since 2010. In this program, participants gain comprehensive export knowledge and have the opportunity to network in international trade.

"In this program, business actors receive guidance on export procedures and information on export destination countries. In addition, the participants can open opportunities in export destination countries accompanied by export practitioners, "explained Dody.

In 2020, the export assistance program will be implemented in five regions. These areas are Jakarta for the Greater Jakarta area, Bandung for the West Java region, Semarang for the Central Java region, and Surabaya and Banyuwangi for the East Java region.

"It is hoped that the success of this UKM can be followed by other UKMs," concluded Dody.
