JAKARTA - The Lampung Provincial Health Office (Dinkes) has tightened the implementation of health protocols in the community to prevent an increase in COVID-19 cases during the upcoming year-end holidays.

"For the COVID-19 issue, we have been taking various handling steps for two years and it is estimated that there will be a spike in cases during the year-end holiday period, of course it will be anticipated from an early age," said Head of the Lampung Provincial Health Office, Reihana in Bandarlampung, Saturday, December 3.

He said the anticipatory steps taken by again tightening the implementation of health protocols in the community.

"We have Regional Regulation Number 3 of 2020 concerning the adaptation of new habits during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that is the basis for enforcing health protocols, of course," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

He said the enforcement of the health protocol must be carried out, because currently many people have started to neglect implementing health protocols, especially the use of masks.

"Now people are starting to dare to take off masks, maybe they feel they have received a booster vaccination (boost), but this is not good or neglecting the prokes because masks are a form of self-protection. So people are advised to re-implement the prokes, wear the masks again," he said.

He said that in recent times the development of positive cases of COVID-19 in Lampung was in the range of 30-40 cases per day.

"There has been no very high spike, yesterday from the results of the tests which were carried out the highest at 50 people per day but decreased to an average of 30-40 people per day. Hopefully, there will be no higher increase of up to hundreds," he said.

He said that the occupancy of beds was not high because most patients who were positive for COVID-19 had mild symptoms and were asymptomatic.

"With the addition of cases, the public is asked to be able to pay attention to the implementation of health procedures, as well as the application of a clean and healthy lifestyle. While we continue to carry out testing, tracing and intervention steps quickly through isolation, quarantine, and treatment after finding new cases," he said.

Based on data from the Lampung Provincial Health Office in the past week, there were 339 additional positive cases of COVID-19 and three deaths. Currently, the total number of COVID-19 cases is 76,002 people, with 4,182 of whom died.
