Heavy Rainfall, 3 Districts In East Manggarai Alert Landslide And Erosion

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded residents in three sub-districts of the East Manggarai region, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), to be aware of the impact of heavy rains in early December 2022.

"We urge you to be careful when doing activities outside the home for residents in Elar, South Elar, and Sambi Rampas sub-districts," Head of the Frans Sales Lega Manggarai Meteorological Station, Dicky Irmawan, when contacted from Labuan Bajo, NTT, Thursday, November 1, was confiscated by Antara.

Heavy rains that have the potential to flush the three sub-districts will have an impact on landslides, rock avalanches or soil erosion on a medium scale. Furthermore, said Dicky, the low bridge cannot be crossed and the volume of river water flow will increase.

"The flood flow is dangerous and can interfere with community activities on a medium scale," he added.

Due to this condition, BMKG appealed to residents in the three sub-districts to be careful both outside and inside the house. They are asked not to carry out activities outside the home if there is no need that is too urgent.

BMKG also reminded the public not to trust information that is not true and cannot be justified.

"We ask residents to coordinate with disaster parties regarding the available information," said Dicky.

The NTT region itself has entered the rainy season based on the early monitoring of the rainy season from the BMKG.

High rainfall needs to be watched out for by the public because it can trigger various impacts of disasters such as floods and landslides. In addition, damage to agricultural and plantation crops also needs to be watched out for this rainy season.

"The community must increase early preparedness and be vigilant," he said.
