The North Aceh Regency Government Asks For UNHCR Not To Leave Their Hands On Rohingya Immigrants

ACEH - The North Aceh Regency Government (Pemkab) has asked the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) international agency to be responsible and deal with Rohingya immigrants stranded in the area. More than 200 Rohingya immigrants have been stranded on the coast of North Aceh Regency. They were stranded in two waves. First in Muara Batu District as many as 111 people and in Dewantara District as many as 119 people. "The North Aceh Regency Government has asked UNHCR and related institutions to handle Rohingya immigrants in North Aceh Regency to the maximum so that they do not seem abandoned," said Head of Public Relations of the North Aceh District Secretariat Hamdani in Lhokseumawe, Antara, Monday, November 28. According to Hamdani, UNCHR still has not determined the pattern of handling the two hundreds of immigrants. Even residents were forced to transport 111 illegal immigrants stranded in Muara Batu District to the North Aceh Regent's Office in Lhoksukon. "Until now there has been no clarity on the location of proper placement for Rohingya residents. Residents have refused to accommodate them because of the lack of a clear commitment from UNHCR towards handling these illegal immigrants," said Hamdani. Currently, said Hamdani, as many as 111 Rohingya immigrants have been assigned to the North Aceh BPBD Office because they were rejected by the people of Muara Batu after 10 days of being accommodated at the community hall and local sub-district office. Meanwhile, as many as 119 Rohingya immigrants who landed in Dewantara District still occupy a recitation center in Bluka Tebai Village, Dewantara District, North Aceh Regency Hamdani said the North Aceh Regency Government continues to urge UNHCR to immediately relocate Rohingya immigrants from a shelter at the Bluka Tebai Village recitation center because their condition is not feasible. Hamdani said the handling of immigrants by UN representatives such as UNHCR was increasingly unclear. The international institution seems to be throwing away the body. The proof is that the handling of these immigrants is not yet clear. "The North Aceh Regency Government will not form a task force for handling immigrants because it is focusing on dealing with floods that occurred last month," said Hamdani.
