PAPUA - West Papua Manokwari Police have named 33 suspects in the alleged illegal gold mining case in Wasirawi Village, Masni District, Manokwari Regency, West Papua. Manokwari Police Chief AKBP Parasian Herman Gultom stated the determination of 33 suspects based on the title of the Manokwari Police Criminal Investigation Team. "After the title of suspect determination, 33 illegal gold mining workers were detained for 20 days at the Manokwari Police Sel for investigation purposes," said Police Chief Herman Gultom in a press conference at the Manokwari Police, Papua, Monday, November 28, quoted by Antara., explained that out of a total of 46 people arrested, 33 were named suspects while 13 others had been sent home because they only acted as cooks. "As many as 33 of these suspects were not Manokwari residents, they were brought in from outside by unscrupulous investors to work as group leaders, excavators, recurrence operators and cash guards (gold filterers)," he said.

Herman said the results of the examination revealed that 33 suspects were not part of a traditional mining group under the control of the customary community of local Ulayat owners.

Herman admitted that his party had already pocketed the identities of the illegal illegal financiers who had fled during the raid on the illegal gold mining area in Masni, Manokwari. "This case is still being developed, because a number of financiers have known their identities, and are confirmed to be caught in the near future," said Herman.
