West Jakarta Metro Police arrested 11 perpetrators of the burglary of an automated teller machine (ATM) in the West Jakarta area which cost banks hundreds of millions. Furthermore, Kompol Haris explained, the modus operandi of the perpetrators in their crimes was to enter an ATM card that had been prepared.
According to Kompol Haris, the perpetrator's actions were revealed when one private bank reported a difference between the money coming out with the remaining and the total notes from the ATM machine.

"We secured the first group in the Karang Anyar, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta and East Jakarta areas, then we secured the groups of 2 suspects HS and VRM in the Cikar Cibinong Cikar area, we secured the development again at the Cieteureup toll gate. Then we secured the group 3 in the Bogor area," he said.
Kompol Haris explained that the mode of crime committed by the suspects was by choosing an old version of the ATM machine which was far from the crowd.
"The modus operandi is by the way the suspect inserts an ATM card that has been prepared to transact cash withdrawals. When the money comes out, the suspect prys out the exit restart from the ATM machine so that the machine fails transactions, as if there is no balance deduction against the account," he said.
Kompol Haris said the perpetrators had been in action for approximately 1.5 years and targeted locations inside and outside Jakarta.
"They act if they are around 1.5 years in place, not only in Jakarta. They play in Bandung, Pamulang, Serpong, Bogor, West Java around Purwakarta," he said.
As a result of their actions, the suspects were charged with Article 363 Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) with a penalty of 9 years in prison.
