Head Of Komnas HAM: We Can't Let People Experience Violence

JAKARTA - Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Ahmad Taufan Damanik invites all parties to strengthen human rights values.

Taufan also reminded that there should be no omission of actions that violate human rights, such as violence and unfair treatment in the community.

"We must not allow certain parties to obstruct or eliminate the freedom of people for the sake of people in this independent country," said Taufan while giving remarks at the commemoration of World Human Rights Day which was held online and on YouTube, Thursday, December 10.

"We must not allow anyone to experience violence, lose their basic rights, experience humiliation and are treated unfairly in the legal, political, economic, social and cultural fields," he added.

Taufan said that the principles of equality and justice are the core of national life.

Thus, all systems in the state and society must be regulated in accordance with human rights.

"All regulations, policies, must be arranged in such a way while respecting the basic rights of equality and justice," he said.

Apart from that, he also invited all parties to strengthen solidarity. Moreover, currently Indonesia is experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I want to invite all elements of the nation to re-strengthen national solidarity on the basis of human values," said Taufan.

"The global COVID-19 pandemic that has also befallen Indonesia is actually a trial as well as an opportunity for all of us to strengthen national solidarity to save Indonesian people," he concluded.
