BABEL - West Bangka Police are intensifying surveillance to prevent tin ore illegal mining activities in mangrove forest areas in Semusuk River, Belolaut Village, Mentok, Bangka Belitung Islands (Babel).
"Supervision by involving a joint team from Satpolair, the Directorate of Polair of the Babel Police, and the Technical Implementation Unit of the Rambat Menduyung Forest Management Unit (UPTD KPHP), we hope to clean the location from illegal mining activities," said Head of the West Bangka Police Polair Unit, Iptu Sugiyanto, in Mentok, Babel, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, November 8.
According to Sugiyanto, supervision and control of the mine site has been carried out several times. The last time, he continued, was carried out on Monday, November 7, but did not find any mining activities.
"In this activity, the joint team did not find any mining activities. However, we will continue to monitor and if it is found, firm action will be taken soon," said Sugiyanto.
Meanwhile, Head of UPTD KPHP Rambat Menduyung Melyadi added that the location visited by the joint team was a mangrove forest that had been carried out by a group of people.
"This location has been mined several times with various mining patterns that are commonly used, such as raids, user-users, and other international mining patterns. When the joint team arrived the location was clean, but we didn't know also in the next week what it would be like," said Melyadi.
Previously, Melyadi admitted that he had conveyed an appeal and sent a warning to the miners at that location so as not to damage the mangrove forest.
He asked residents not to damage prohibited areas, such as protected forests, production forests, and mangrove areas, because they will have a bad impact and harm the community.
"We are currently intensifying the reforestation movement with replanting, while there are several individuals who destroy the mangrove area. We hope that the community will be proactive so that they can jointly stop these illegal activities," he said.
