New Year's Eve 2021 Celebrations In The Capital Are Prohibited

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will not hold and ban the 2021 New Year's Eve celebrations. Usually, New Years Eve celebrations are centered in the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout area.

This decision was taken because of the uncontrolled condition of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Any activity that has the potential to create a crowd will be avoided.

Following up on this, the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf) issued a Circular Number 400 / SE / 2020. The contents are asking all tourism business establishments in Jakarta not to organize New Years Eve celebrations.

Head of DKI Disparekraf, Gumilar Ekalaya, said that this decision was made based on the results of the coordination meeting with Polda Metro Jaya.

"Responding to the pandemic condition in Jakarta, where cases are still high, the Polda Metro suggested eliminating New Year celebrations at hotels, cafes, or outdoors such as Ancol and TMII," Gumilar said when contacted by VOI, Thursday, December 10.

Disparekraf also prohibits tourism establishments from firing fireworks at New Year's Eve. Because, this will invite visitors to gather and cause the potential for transmission of the corona virus.

Tourism establishments are also asked to carry out supervisory duties and ensure that crowds do not occur. The business premises should also prevent visitors from hosting their own New Year celebrations at that location.

"Technical matters in the field, whether prevention or dissolution, are handed over to the health protocol monitoring team at the tourism business premises. If our task is to ask the business not to hold a new year celebration," said Gumilar.

In addition, all tourism businesses are required to comply with operating hours. During the transitional PSBB period, all business establishments, whether tourism, shopping, or restaurants may only operate at 21.00 WIB.

"The operating hours of the tourism business still follow the current transitional PSBB regulations. There is no additional operating hours even though it is New Year's Eve," he explained.

Furthermore, Gumilar said that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will take firm action in accordance with the provisions if there is a violation in the tourism business in the form of neglecting the New Year's Eve celebrations.
