TRENGGALEK - The government of Trenggalek Regency, East Java asked for help from the River Basin Center (BBWS) to engineer the river route in the Munjungan District to prevent flooding from happening again in the southern coastal area. "We see this (one of the main problems of the river branching. It really needs work. Later we will coordinate with the Ministry of PUPR through BBWS to engineer safe river routes for residential areas," said Trenggalek Regent Mochamad Nur Arifin while reviewing the impact of flash floods in the Munjungan area, Trenggalek, Antara, Sunday, November 6. According to him, river path engineering is needed because the characteristics of the river in the southern region are heavy currents, but the contours are not deep and the flow flow moves. In addition, Arifin said there were several embankments that had to be closed immediately when the river's water discharge increased. "This step is considered important and very influential to anticipate that river water does not overflow into residential areas," he said. Furthermore, strengthening a number of bridges also needs to be considered in order to prevent infrastructure damage when river water discharge is high, or even above the threshold. Currently, the Trenggalek Regency Government is focusing on post-disaster countermeasures. One of them is by helping residents clean up the remains of thick mud deposits, which is up to 20-30 centimeters in a number of affected villages, such as in Tawing, Bangun, and Bendoroto villages, which are the worst areas affected by flooding in Munjungan District. "This must be done with service and later we will help from the government, TNI, Polri to immediately clean up so that residents' activities return to normal," he said.
