Lowering Abu 150 Meters High, Mount Anak Krakatau Back Eruption

Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation reported Mount Anak Krakatau experiencing an eruption. The mountain in Lampung Province threw a column of ash as high as 150 meters at 09.56 WIB, Tuesday, October 25.

Post Pantau officer Anwar Mucklisin said the ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the northeast.

"This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 42 mm and a duration of approximately 25 seconds, there was no sound of a bang," Anwar said in his statement, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, October 25.

The eruption activity on Mount Anak Krakatau also occurred on Monday, October 24 yesterday. The eruption with a height of approximately 150 meters of ash occurred at 17.57 WIB and 21.11 WIB.

When the eruption that afternoon, the ash column was observed to be black with thick intensity to the northeast. This eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 20 millimeters (mm) and a duration of 32 seconds.

Meanwhile, the eruption that occurred at night was observed by a column of gray to black ash with a thick intensity to the east. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 44 mm and a duration of 47 seconds.

Mount Anak Krakatau is currently at Level III or standby. PVMBG recommends that people, visitors, tourists, or climbers not approach the volcano or move within a 5 kilometer radius of the active crater.
