JAKARTA - The construction of towers in Langsa City mangrove forest, Aceh Province will be completed in 2023, said Langsa Mayor Said Mahdum Majid.

"This mangrove tower (tower) was built as a place to monitor so that mangrove forests remain sustainable and not be cut down," Said said, quoted on Sunday.

He made this statement on the sidelines inviting the Acting Governor of Aceh Achmad Marzuki to see firsthand the mangrove forest tower built by the local government.

He explained that the construction of the tower was also part of an effort to attract tourist visits to the place. With the building as high as 45 meters, visitors can see Langsa City and enjoy the view of mangrove forests.

He mentioned the mangrove forest in that place covering an area of 8,000 hectares, and the tower served as a monitoring area.

"This mangrove forest also functions to maintain marine biota so that it can continue to develop and the most important thing is to protect the environment," he said.

He said the presence of Acting Governor of Aceh Achmad Marzuki to mangrove forests was also part of his efforts to convey that the local community played an active role in protecting forests as a source of life and carbon reserves.

"This mangrove forest is also the last fort in the event of a disaster and is a place of education for the community," he said.

The group participated in enjoying the live view of the mangrove forest through the tower which has seven floors.

Acting Governor of Aceh Achmad Marzuki said the presence of the tower would be able to increase tourist visits to the local mangrove forest.

"God willing, this mangrove forest will soon operate again. We have made joint efforts with the Langsa City Government to maximize this tourist destination, including the issue of licensing with the Minister of Environment and Forestry," he said.
