JAKARTA - The Expert Council of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI), Keri, asked the public to avoid buying medicines at stalls to their children. This is an effort to prevent acute kidney failure that is rampant in several countries, including Indonesia.
If the child has a fever, Keri mentions that the initial treatment that can be done by parents is non-pharmacology therapy.
"There is non-pharmacology therapy that can be used other than medicine. If there is a fever at the beginning, you can try it first by compressed or wrapped in shallots," said Keri in a virtual discussion, Saturday, October 22.
For further treatment, the public can immediately take their children to health facilities and get the medicine according to the doctor's prescription.
"So the point is that if you have a little fever so far, look for medicine to stalls and so on, we urge the public to now and also prioritize buying medicine in health facilities in the future," said Keri.
So far, the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has banned the use of sirop drugs. The Ministry of Health also ordered all health care facilities not to prescribed drugs in the form of liquid/syrup preparations until an official announcement was made from the government.
Keri said, currently the pharmaceutical industry company is also re-ecusing a number of its products related to the content of chemical compounds in the solvent of sirop drugs which are the cause of acute kidney failure, namely etylene glycol (EG) and dietilen glycol (DEG).
"Alhamdulillah, several industries have made a declaration that there are no EGs and DEGs in their products. I also appreciate the precautionary principle of the Ministry of Health by stopping the use of sirop preparations as long as we are still investigating this issue," he said.
As is known, the mysterious acute kidney failure or attypical progressive acute childney injury (AKI) is a condition when the kidneys suddenly cannot filter waste from the blood and without knowing the cause.
Early symptoms of mysterious acute kidney disorders include fever, diarrhea or vomiting, and cough-silence. The follow-up symptoms are the decreased amount of urine and frequency of BAK, swelling body, decreased consciousness, and shortness of breath.
Several types of Syrup drugs used by toddlers affected by AKI are proven to have EG, DEG, EGBE, which should not have had a / very few levels in the Gunung drug.
The Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) has ordered the pharmaceutical industry to attract the circulation of 5 types ofAMps containing EGs exceeding the safe threshold.
Five types ofhady drugs that are considered to contain EG contamination exceed a safe threshold are:
