JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of West Java Uu Ruzhanul Ulum invites the younger generation to learn Arabic. Many job opportunities require Arabic language skills, especially in the Middle East region.

"Learning Arabic is not rural. We invite the younger generation and students not to be prestige in choosing to study Arabic," said Uu in Cirebon, Monday, October 17.

Speaking to open the 2022 Gebyar Bahasa Arab National Seminar (GBA), at the IAIN Syekh Nurjati Campus, Uu said the public's interest in learning foreign languages was influenced by career opportunities. In fact, many job opportunities require Arabic language skills, especially in the Middle East.

In fact, continued Uu, not a few countries in the Middle East are even in the advanced category with many job opportunities such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

"SLTA graduates tend to learn languages whose countries are considered advanced. Even though in the Middle East there are many opportunities to find work by mastering Arabic," he said as quoted by Antara.

In addition, said Uu, learning Arabic is also very important, especially for the people of West Java who are Muslim, namely in understanding Islamic knowledge itself. Thus, studying Arabic for a Muslim can have a domino effect on increasing faith and piety.

"Learning Arabic is synonymous to increase faith and piety. We believe that people who learn Arabic have great faith. So it is very important that the people of West Java are known as Islamic religious, understand Arabic," he said.

Uu added that it should not be the other way around, prioritizing other languages than Arabic with the aim of money and work.

Moreover, said Uu, Arabic is one of the international languages used in the association of the United Nations (UN) organization together with English, Japanese, Chinese, French, and Russian.
