JAKARTA - The Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah, admitted that Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) are in demand by several placement countries. The government will ensure that it continues to support the placement of competent workers.

"We are quite proud because it turns out that migrant workers from Indonesia are quite a in demand. Not only from Korea but countries, such as Japan, the Middle East, and several European countries", said Ida Fauziyah in a statement in Jakarta, Monday, October 17.

Speaking while accompanying President Joko Widodo when releasing PMI to South Korea, at an event in Jakarta on Monday, October 17, she said these countries have a high interest in Indonesian workers (TKI) with competence.

For this reason, the government continues to try to prepare skilled workers and ensure that PMI placements are carried out according to procedures.

"We will place those who have competence. We prepare their skills and competencies, and we make sure that their placement is carried out according to procedures", said the Minister of Manpower as quoted by Antara.

On the same occasion, President Joko Widodo expressed his pleasure because 597 PMIs who will be dispatched to South Korea under the intergovernmental cooperation scheme (G to G) have been provided with briefing and education.

The President said that currently, the number of PMIs who are abroad is 9 million people. Of these, around 4.5 million PMI departed illegally or not through a predetermined procedure and the rest were legal.

In this regard, the President ordered the relevant ministries/agencies to fight against illegal or non-procedural PMI placement syndicates and provide protection to Indonesian workers.
