Regarding The Conflict Tragedy, TPF Aremania Asks For Komnas HAM Forms For The Investigation Team For Human Rights Violations

JAKARTA - The Aremania Fact Finding Team asked the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) to immediately form a team of investigators to investigate allegations of gross human rights violations in the rioting incident at the Kanjuruhan Stadium which resulted in 132 casualties. Secretary General of the Federation of Commissions for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) accompanying TPF Aremania, Andy Irfan, in Malang City, East Java, Friday night, October 15, said the investigation needed to be carried out by Komnas HAM to find intellectual actors from the incident. "We ask Komnas HAM, the state agency authorized in this regard, to form a team of investigators for alleged gross human rights violations," Andy said, quoted by Antara. According to Andy, there are indications of a systematic crime from the attitude of the security forces who fired tear gas at the Kanjuruhan Stadium after the match between Arema FC and Persebaya. "There are a number of grounds for stating it is a systematic crime," he said. These bases include excessive actions by Brimob personnel in the field, armed with Brimob personnel with tear gas weapons, and supervision of security is with the police and not with the organizing committee. "Personnel in the field, committing acts of violence in the field are not an initiative of themselves, but because there are directions from superior officers," said Andy. He added that with a number of these notes, an in-depth investigation must be carried out by the party with the authority, namely Komnas HAM. In addition, the incident is also believed to be a crimes against humanity due to attacks by security forces on unarmed civilians. The team also believes that the victim died from being hit by tear gas. "We believe this is a crime of humanity. The attack by the security apparatus on civilians is unarmed," he said. Then, TPF Aremania also asked the National Police through the Professional and Security Division to examine all officers who have an accountability command chain in deploying personnel at the Kanjuruhan Stadium. "Also examining all personnel in the lowest layers who are aggressively committing acts of violence. Without checking, we will not know what really happened," he said. The riot occurred after the match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya with a final score of 2-3 at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, on Saturday night, October 1, 2022. The defeat made a number of supporters drop from the stands and enter the field area. The riots grew even bigger when a number of flares were thrown, including other objects. Joint security forces from the police and the TNI tried to dispel the supporters until they finally used tear gas shots. It was recorded that the total number of victims of the tragedy in Kanjuruhan was 754 people. Of that number, 132 people died, 596 people were lightly to moderately injured and 26 people were seriously injured.
